Layer2 Auto Tagger for SharePoint - FAQs

How the Layer2 Auto Tagger for SharePoint is licensed?
Layer2 Auto Tagger is licensed on a per server base. A license is required for each SharePoint Web Front End Server (WFE) and Application Server. No additional user CALs are required. The license price is a one-time fee.
Why SharePoint Application Servers must be licensed?
The Auto Tagger runs as a SharePoint Timer Job in background. In a farm-based configuration timer jobs usually are executed at the application servers.
Is a license required for development servers?
For development you can generally use the free Shareware Edition, but please note the Shareware limitations (product specific). Otherwise non-production server (e.g. for development, QA, etc.) have to be licensed as well. Non-production server licenses are discounted with 50%. Please note, that non-production licenses are sold as an add-on to production licenses only.
Do you offer any license volume discounts?
What are the limitations of the free Shareware Edition?
Items with "Title" columns content starts with "A" or "a" are considered only for auto tagging. Documents with "Name" and "Filename" column content starts with "A" or "a" are considered only for auto tagging.
What about updates and upgrades?
You can optionally order Software Assurance (annual fee, approx. 20% of license costs) and technical support (per hour). Please check the web shop for this.
Do I have to re-install for licensing?
No, it's only about placing a license file in the feature directory and IIS reset. No uninstall / re-install is required.
How to license the Auto Tagger?
The Layer2 Auto Tagger for SharePoint is available as component of the Knowledge Management Suite for SharePoint or separately.
Is it already available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016?
The Layer2 Auto Tagger for SharePoint is available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, 2013 and 2016 (any on-premise edition, not for SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Online Office 365).
Why no items are being tagged?
Please make sure that the feature is installed and activated (see here for any details). Next go step-by-step: Does manual tagging work using enterprise metadata columns? Does tagging work with the Layer2 Tag Suggester for SharePoint? Please note that the Auto Tagger works exactly like like the Tag Suggester, but without any user interface. Please make sure that you have appropriate terms or tags in your assigned term set. You can improve precision by defining classification rules using the Layer2 Taxonomy Manager. Also make sure, that the Auto Tagger is well configured.
How to configure the Auto Tagger?
Please define any Auto Tagger Scopes as described here. Please note, that in the default configuration no items or documents are included in scope, to avoid unwanted data change.
Why I don't get any tag suggestions for my documents of type *.xyz?
Please make sure that any IFilter is installed for the document type XYZ. If you find content from *.XYZ documents in the SharePoint default search, the Tag Suggester should work as well.
How to add content categorization rules to use with the SharePoint Auto Tagger?
You can add content categorization rules to each term in the SharePoint Term Store using the Layer2 Taxonomy Manager for SharePoint.
Do you offer RegEx support inside content categorization rules?
Yes, all options of the RegEx implementation of the Microsoft .NET Framework can be used for content categorization.
