How the Layer2 Related Content Web Part for SharePoint is licensed?

The Layer2 Related Content Web Part for SharePoint is licensed on a per server base. A license is required for each SharePoint Web Front End Server (WFE). No additional user CALs are required. The license price is a one-time fee.


Is a license required for development servers?

For development you can generally use the free Shareware Edition, but please note the Shareware limitations (product specific). Otherwise non-production server  (e.g. for development, QA, etc.) ave to be licensed as well. Non-production server licenses are discounted with 50%. Please note, that non-production licenses are sold as an add-on to production licenses only.


Do you offer any license volume discounts?

There are discounts available, if you want to order multiple licenses at once (starting with 5 licenses). Please contact [email protected] for a detailed offer, if required.

What about updates and upgrades?

You can optionally order software assurance (annual fee, approx. 20% of license costs) and technical support (per hour). Please check the web shop for this.


Do I have to re-install for licensing?

No, it's only about placing a license file in the feature directory and IIS reset. No uninstall / re-install is required.


How to license the Layer2 Related Content Web Part for SharePoint?

The Layer2 Related Content Web Part for SharePoint is available as component of the Knowledge Management Suite for SharePointor separately.


Is it available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016?

The Layer2 Related Content Web Part for SharePoint is available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, 2013 and 2016 (any on-premise edition, not for SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Online).


How to display page-related SharePoint items and documents using the web part?

You have to give the page the same terms or tags (depending on configuration) as the related content. Please add an additional managed metadata column to the pages library and configure the term set.


How to display SharePoint items and documents that are classified with specific terms or tags?

You can create a logical expression of the desired tags or terms in the web part settings.


How to customize the output of the web part?

You can use your own XSLT to completely customize the output.


No items and documents are displayed. Where to go next?

Please check your web part configuration. Select one tag or term only as a starting point. Classify your desired content, items and documents, with this tag or term. Make sure that the SharePoint search crawler has already processed your data changes. Make sure that your page has metadata assigned.


What about auto-tagging SharePoint pages?
SharePoint pages libraries can be automatically tagged. Managed metadata is assigned in background using the Layer2 Auto Tagger. This can also be done with document libraries or lists. In this way content relationships are managed completely automatically.


How to display external content as related?
External content can be fully integrated with SharePoint Knowledge Management using the Layer2 Business Data List Connector. It can be automatically tagged using the Layer2 Auto Tagger and displayed dynamically via Layer2 Related Content Web Part. For example data from ERP/CRM or databases can be automatically dynamically shown as related content to specifc pages in SharePoint that have the same managed metadata assigned.
