What's the limitation of the free shareware version?

In the free shareware version 10-20% of the terms are marked with additional Shareware information and linked to the product's web site.

 

How the Layer2 Tag Directory Web Part for SharePoint is licensed?

Layer2 Tag Directory for SharePoint is licensed on a per server base. A license is required for each SharePoint Web Front End Server (WFE). No additional user CALs are required. The license price is a one-time fee. The Layer2 Tag Directory Web Part for SharePoint is available as component of the Knowledge Management Suite for SharePoint.

 

Is a license required for development servers?

For development you can generally use the free Shareware Edition, but please note the Shareware limitations (product specific). Otherwise non-production server (e.g. for development, QA, etc.) have to be licensed as well. Non-production server licenses are discounted with 50%. Please note, that non-production licenses are sold as an add-on to production licenses only.

 

Do you offer any license volume discounts?

There are discounts available, if you want to order multiple licenses at once (starting with 5 licenses). Please contact [email protected] for a detailed offer, if required.

 

What about updates and upgrades?

You can optionally order Software Assurance (annual fee, approx. 20% of license costs) and technical support (per hour). Please check the web shop for this.

 

Do I have to re-install for licensing?

No, it's only about placing a license file in the feature directory and IIS reset. No uninstall / re-install is required.


Is the Web Part already available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016?

The Layer2 Tag Directory Web Part for SharePoint is available for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, 2013 2016 (any on-premise edition, not for SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Online).


An error has occurred: "There was no term store found. Please contact your administrator."

Please configure the SharePoint Managed Metadata Service and / or the User Profile Service and / or the User Profile Synchronization Service. Create a Term Store that contains Term Groups, Term Sets and Terms. See Microsoft SharePoint documentation about how. Then try again.

 

Which tags or terms are displayed as links?

Depends on settings, it can display terms or social tags. Please keep in mind, that terms can be additionally published as social tags. You have to enable "Metadata Publishing" for your list or library. Go to list or library settings, select Enterprise Metadata and Keyword Settings (in the Permission and Management Section of your settings). Enable "Metadata Publishing".

 

No tags are displayed? Tags are displayed, but links are wrong? How to solve these issues?

Do you have already defined terms in the SharePoint term store or applied social tags to your content? Please compare to those tags, that are displayed with the Microsoft out-of-the-box Tag Cloud Web Part. If the default Tag Cloud Web Part displays no tags at all, the Managed Metadata Service and / or the User Profile Service and / or the User Profile Synchronization Service isn't configured well, or the crawler hasn't finished the job.

How to use the display templates to customize the output of the Tag Directory Web Part?

The „Display Template“ option allows you to choose between several pre-defined templates:
Static: Shows a static display of all content (as known from prior versions of the Web-Part) Dynamic: Shows a dynamic display which subdivides the content and information with a simple click to a root node or character. Custom: Pre-set to the static display. It allows you to insert your own XSL file or a link to your XSL file to completely customize the output.

 

How to customize the link?

Generally you have all possibilities to customize the enterprise metadata search link for your specific requirements using our placeholders.

To link to the Term Profile:

How to display the usage count?

You can display a usage count for social tags only because of Microsoft SharePoint API limitations.
